Ray Crooke (1922-2015). Original gouache and pastel painting on paper from his Thursday island series. This colourful artwork is titled 'The young Couple' and is signed lower left 'Ray Crooke', This is a real collectors piece in excellent condition and beautifully framed and matted. Provenance: Holdsworth Gallery, Sydney Private collection, Tasmania, acquired from the above in 1979.

Bio
Ray Austin Crooke was born in 1922, Melbourne Victoria. He is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most popular artists, His distinctive paintings of the South Seas, Fijian islands and their inhabitants are renowned for their bold colour and tranquil imagery. The water and the unspoiled culture of the islands and their people are masterfully captured in these vibrant island landscapes.
In 1969, Crooke won The Archibald Prize for his Portrait of George Johnston.
