Luigi Onesto (b.1935) Murano Italy - Sommerso Red, Blue & Yellow Glass Vase 15cm
A Murano sommerso glass vase by Luigi Onesto (b. 1935) for Vetreria Oball (LO10), circa 1990. A teardrop shaped vase, with intense Chromatic sommerso colours of red, yellow and blue. The asymmetrical shape complements the amazingly vibrant blood red and deep blue submerged colours with a flash of palest yellow to create a remarkable work of power and contrasts. The vase has its original Oball label and Murano authenticated labels attached. In excellent condition with no chips or significant scratches. By far the most popular colour palette from Oball.

Bio
Vetreria Oball was established in 1970 in Murano, Italy. The founding father Luigi Onesto was one of the greatest Murano glassmakers in Italy. Luigi Onesto was born in Murano into a glass-making family. At the age of 15, he began to learn the secrets of glass as an apprentice at Gambaro & Poggi, one of the oldest and most famous glass factories on the island. In 1978, he established his glass art studio, the Vetreria Artistica Oball. Onesto’s elegant vessels, bottles and objects are created by the technique called sommerso, which incorporates layers of different colors. In Australia, he would be the most sought after glass artist. He fetches prices well above market due to his “Sommerso” technique, which in Italian literally means “submerged”. This technique is used to create several layers of glass (usually with different contrasting colors) inside a single object, giving the illusion of “immersed” colors that lay on top of each other without mixing
