John Perceval (1923-2000) Large Original Crayon Drawing on Paper 40cm x 27.5cm
An absolutely stunning, unique and highly colourful piece by one of Australia's most renowned artists John De Burgh Perceval (1923-2000). This large original artwork of a tree featuring multi-coloured crayon on paper, signed and dated lower right 'JP' (1990). The artwork is clean and crisp and beautifully framed with a white mount and antique gold frame under glass. Provenance: Private collector Melbourne; Woodlands Auctions.

Bio
John de Burgh Perceval (1923-2000) AO was one the most important Australian artists from post-WWII. Perceval made a strong impact since 1940's in the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria. By the 60's Perceval achieved great recognition and financial success. Perceval awards inc. 1958 McCaughey Prize, 1960 Wynne Prize, 1991 Officer of the Order of Australia. In 1966 Albert Hall Canberra held Perceval Retrospective, 1984 Heide Museum of Modern Art Perceval Retrospective, 1992 National Gallery of Victoria. Perceval's work is held in museums collections and is highly valued by collectors.
Perceval was the last surviving member of a group known as the Angry Penguins who redefined Australian art in the 1940s. Other members included John Reed, Joy Hester, Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd and Albert Tucker. He was also an Antipodean and contributed to the Antipodeans exhibition of 1959.
