John Charles Allcot (1888-1973), An original landscape watercolour from 1932, signed and dated lower left, The actual artwork is in very good condition in its original frame. The glass requires a clean but other than that, a lovely affordable vintage piece.

Bio
John Allcot was born in Liverpool, England, where he trained as an artist. He worked as a mariner before moving to Sydney in 1909. After again working on ships, in 1912 Allcot became a full-time artist. He painted theatre scenery, worked as an illustrator and took commissions to paint ships. A prolific artist, Allcot painted landscapes and still-life as well as the detailed marine paintings that were his passion.
His romantic style was widely appreciated, especially his works on the founding of the Australian colonies painted in the 1920s. He had a successful career, exhibiting through the 60s and 70s, including for the bicentenary of James Cook’s voyage to Australia at Prouds Art Gallery in Sydney. In 1970 he was awarded an Order of the British Empire.
