Jack Absalom (1927-2019) XLarge Original Oil Painting 'The Land of the Boabs' 44.5cm x 68cm
A unique opportunity for the first time in 33 years to aquire what is one of Jack Absaloms (1927-2019) finest oil paintings on canvas. Listed in his book "Absalom paintings 1972-1996", this extra large original artwork is titled "The Land of the Boabs" and is signed 'Absalom' and dated ('90') lower right.
Jack writes "I painted this while staying at Mable Downs Station which is about 30 kilometres south of Turkey Creek, on the main road to Hall's Creek. This area is one of the most magnificent parts of Australia. Mable Downs country runs to the very edge of the Bungle Bungles. In fact you drive on Mable Downs country when you go into the Bungles. I love this region. I spend three or four weeks here every year and, after eight years, I believe I am just starting to understand it and to get a feel for it. The boabs have a special fascination for me. You will often see a big tree with all the young trees around it, as if it's a mother with her family around her. In a way I suppose that is really what it is. Then with a few ant-hills tangled up amongst them you have the makings of an interesting painting. You only come across a scene like this in a couple of areas in Australia, so that makes it rather special."
Beautifully framed in period champagne gold with a cream cloth trim and ready to hang. Both the artwork and the frame are in excellent condition. Very few Absalom artworks enter the open market each year and certainly fewer of this size and quality. This is a very rare opportunity to purchase an investment piece of art at an affordable price from one of Australia's finest bush artists. Provenance: Purchased direct from Jack Absalom Circa 1990, Private collection Tamworth NSW.

Bio
John Henry Absalom, colloquially to everyone as 'Jack', was born in Port Augusta, South Australia. He grew up along the Nullarbor Plain, west of Port Augusta, and from an early age developed a wide knowledge of the Australian outback from Indigenous Australians (Aborigines) who existed in tribes at that time. In 1949 he moved to Broken Hill, New South Wales, where he lived and worked until his death in 2019 in Broken Hill at the age of 91.
The landscapes of the country inspired him to start painting in the 1970s. Since then, Jack Absalom's paintings have earned him the Medal of the Order of Australia and the Advance Australia award. He was also one of the five members of the Brushmen of the Bush, a group of Australian artists who dedicated themselves to painting Australian landscapes. Using earth tones and detailed imagery, artist Jack Absalom brought the Australian Outback to life on canvas. Jack Absalom's artwork encompasses oil paintings, prints, and magnificent opal displays.
