Gorgeous "Retired" lead crystal glass creation from the Mats Jonasson Artemiss Collection. Designed by Erika Hoglund. Manufactured at Mats Jonasson Crystal Studios in Maleras , Sweden. This stunning golden yellow sculpture is a part of the Artemiss series and features a beautifully modeled nude female torso deeply carved into the reverse side of the solid lead crystal block.
The Artemiss collection is a series of female bodies in crystal blocks, meant to be reminiscent of the wild animals, of which Artemiss was the mythological patroness. The total series consists of twenty different glass sculptures. Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. This piece is beautifully signed to the base with an engraved signature reading "E Hoglund Maleras 25025". The original "Mats Jonasson Maleras Sweden Full Lead" label, along with the "Design Erika Hoglund" label remain in place to the lower front face of the sculpture.

Bio
Born in 1971, Erika Höglund was raised in a family of artists in Småland, Sweden. Both her father, Erik Höglund, and her mother, Monica Backström, are well known glass artists. So, perhaps it was only a matter of time before Erika started expressing herself through crystal. Erika has attended at Parsons Institute in New York, an art school which has influenced and inspired her a great deal. After her studies, Höglund went to Mexico and Guatemala, where she decided to settle down for a while as a local. Her experience there was a fruitful one. It enabled her to eventually bring back to Sweden a broader understanding in culture, the arts and life in general. Despite the rich knowledge she gained through her travels, the impressions she received during her stay abroad were not the inspiration behind her first collection. Instead, her source was old, Swedish mythology, "huldran".
